I was moderatly excited for Nintendo's press conference mainly due to the lack of actual hardcore software they had already announced. The main hope I had was Project Cafe, Nintendo's new console and what that could do as well as what it is like. Nintendo started out by playing some music for the 25th anniversery of Zelda. Next after some silly antics they had a Zelda game for every platform Nintendo has. For the 3DS there is The Legend of Zelda:Ocarina of Time 3D this month, the 3DS eShop get The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening as of today, DSi ware get The Legend of Zelda: The Four Swords later this year, and finally for Wii The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword this holiday.
Next they started to show off future 3DS games since their next console will not be out this year, but in 2012 so 3DS and Wii games will have to hold you over until then. They only announced 2 big 3DS games first there is Luigi's Maision 2 (yes... they went there) and The other new game was announced with the new console. The rest were things we have seen before with new features in games such as Kid Icarus, Mario Kart, Star Fox 64 3D, Super Mario 3D, etc.
Finally Nintendo unveiled there new console with one of the stupidest names since the Wii. Project Cafe ended up being called Wii U.....(yes they added a U). Nintendo really wanted to focus on the controler and here it is...
It is quite a thick tablet like controller with a touch screen, 2 analog sticks, D-Pad, 4 face buttons, 2 cameras, speaker, and a mic. Some little facts you didn't find out at the press conference are that the touch screen is a little ove 6 inches, doesn't support multi-touch, and the console it talks to was not disscused at all, but Reggie said it is a full 1080P HD console. The big game they announced will actually connect to the 3DS is a new Smash Bros. game and all we know is that the two games will work togeather in someway is what Nintendo says. A big push for games didn't come from 1st party instead it will come from 3rd partys like THQ, EA, and Ubisoft. They announced many new upcoming games for it, but I failed to see why I should get this over my current console of choice.
Still Nintendo has more to announce on the Wii U as well as more details on features so I will post as more Info comes out about it. Still a very weak show in my opinion, but I was glad to see a new Smash Bros. games and the potential for the Wii U no matter how stupid the name is.
I grade Nintendo's Conference: B-
